Herodion staircase that led to the triple-arched entrance and a double –arched exit known as Huldah Gates, led the pilgrims up and down from the Temple platform. Steps alternate between wide and narrow to discourage running. This is the location where Jesus ascended each time He visited the Temple. In this complex many ritual baths served the pilgrims who had to wash before entering the Temple area. On this staircase, Peter preached about the Lord Jesus and lead to faith 3,000 people who were baptized in those cleansing pools on the feast of Pentecost (Shavuot, see Acts 2:41). In the book of Exodus chapter 32 on the feast of Pentecost, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, he broke the tablets of the law as he saw the people sinning with the Golden Calf. According to his command the sons of Levi went through the camp and killed 3,000 people (Exodus 32:27-28).
