The Herodion staircase, located on the southern side of the Temple Mount, led the pilgrims up and down to the Temple platform through triple-arched entrance gates and double–arched exit gates (Huldah Gates).
The steps are thoughtfully designed to alternate between wide and narrow to discourage running.
Jesus and His Disciples ascended and descended this staircase each time They entered and exited the Temple platform.
In the vicinity of the stairs are tens of ritual baths for pilgrims who had to wash before entering the temple area.
After Peter preached about the Risen Lord Jesus, 3,000 people were baptized in those cleansing pools at the feast of Pentecost- Shavuot and came to faith (Acts 2:41).
In the book of Exodus, chapter 32, on the feast of Pentecost, the law was given to Moses on Mount Sinai. When he came down from the mountain, he broke the tablets of the law as he saw the people sinning before God with the Golden Calf.
According to his command, the sons of Levi went through the camp and killed 3,000 people (Exodus 32:27-28).
WHEN THE LAW WAS GIVEN, THREE THOUSAND SOULS WERE LOST, BUT WHEN GRACE CAME, THREE THOUSAND SOULS WERE SAVED.
